Karaoke Hardware: The Basics

by Rex Freiberger

Are you a karaoke junkie at heart? Karaoke is almost always a fun and rewarding experience that can be shared with friends and family. Ever considered owning your own karaoke hardware instead of going to your local karaoke bar or lounge? Just imagine the limitless possibilities you can experience from the comfort of your own house. Your home may just be the happening place to be once the weekend comes. If you have given thought to owning your own karaoke equipment, let me help you understand the various functions and basic accessories that are part of a Karaoke. For your sake, I've avoided the tech-language as much as possible.

Base Unit aka "Karaoke Machine"

First of all, you've got your base unit where you input the karaoke CD. It's widely considered to be the "karaoke machine." Choose wisely because this is the most central piece of karaoke hardware needed to get started.

Sound System

Our next topic is about PA systems; a good karaoke machine is not fully possible without an exceptional and dependable sound system. If you own a bar or part of a local church group, this is the way to go without spending thousands upon thousands on expensive and difficult to assemble sound systems. In fact, the rise of karaoke bars as a source for recreation was mainly because of PA systems; the effortlessness of setting up the equipment day after day and the superb sound quality made karaoke the easy choice for both karaoke bar owners and patrons alike.

Microphone

All previously mentioned will be useless if you don't have a microphone right? The fundamental or widely used microphone is no different from the karaoke microphone being sold. PA systems or karaoke base units will usually have inputs and outputs that will make any microphone you may have backwards compatible, which is a huge plus. Good thing with the PA system or karaoke base unit is that it is flexible with any microphones you have, it is retrograde compatible for most if not all ports to accommodate all versions of your unit. If you don't already own a microphone, omnidirectional ones are the best since they can pick up sound from a wide range of areas (which is especially good especially since many karaoke entertainers like to get the crowd going with their dance moves as well.

Karaoke CD

Lastly, what's a karaoke system without music right? All of your favorite tunes are stored on the disc that once connected to a monitor will show you the lyrics together with pauses so that you can properly pace yourself for a fantastic performance.

Before Purchasing

Make sure to do your research before making any purchase on karaoke equipment, as there is quite the extensive selection available on the world wide web. Hope you found this article informative and has better prepared you to be the karaoke star you always wanted to be!
